COLUMBUS, Ohio — The percentage of Ohio minority students taking the SAT college entrance exam reached an all-time high this year, while test results held steady.

A report released Monday shows a record 19.9 percent of the state's SAT takers were minority students, up from 19.2 percent in 2009. Five years ago, 16.6 percent of Ohio test takers were minorities. The growth in Ohio matches a national trend.

More than 28,000 members of Ohio's class of 2010 took the SAT — 21.1 percent of high school graduates. The College Board, which administers the test, says 71.8 percent of Ohio test takers reported attending public schools.

The state's average scores were roughly even with a year ago. Critical reading was up 1 point, mathematics rose 2 points, and writing was down a point.
