BROOKLYN, Ohio — American Greetings Corp. says it will remain in Ohio, keeping its 2,000 headquarters jobs in the state.

The company’s not saying where in Ohio it will be based, but it has eliminated a move to the Chicago area.

The nation’s largest publicly traded greeting card maker began looking for a new home last year when the Cleveland suburb of Brooklyn, Ohio, raised its income tax. Besides Brooklyn, other finalist cities were the Cleveland suburbs of Beachwood, Brecksville, Independence and Westlake — along with two unspecified locations in the Chicago area.

American Greetings is no longer considering the Chicago locations.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich, was on hand Monday when the company announced its intentions to stay in Ohio. He has lobbied to keep the company in the state.
