Marge McNab Block Award goes to Akron woman

4/4/2011

Jinae West, a Kent State University journalism graduate, has been named this year's recipient of the Marge McNab Block Award.

The award of $1,000 from The Blade goes each year to Kent's graduating senior woman in news journalism with the highest grade-point average.

In December, Ms. West of Akron received a bachelor's degree in news, with a concentration in magazine journalism. As a Kent student, she worked for the student newspaper, the Daily Kent Stater; the student television station, TV2; the student magazines, the Burr and the Fusion, and the public radio station licensed to Kent, WKSU-FM.

Ms. West is an intern for All Things Considered at National Public Radio in Washington. Previously, she was an intern at washingtonpost.com, The Colbert Report, and the Onion.

The Marge McNab Block Award is named for the late Mrs. Block, who was a reporter and director of features and women's news at The Blade and a Kent State alumna. Her husband was Paul Block, Jr., co-publisher of The Blade from 1942 until his death in 1987.
