CLEVELAND — Ohio’s largest county is introducing ethics training for county contractors as part of its effort to fight corruption in the wake of a federal investigation.

The Plain Dealer in Cleveland reports the ethics code recently passed by the council in Cuyahoga County calls for the training. The code is stricter than the one used by previous county leaders.

The first training event is June 30, focusing on construction firms. The county inspector general and federal attorneys will explain the ethics code and relevant laws to businesses that work with the county or hope to do so.

County Executive Ed FitzGerald says it’s a step toward creating higher expectations in the county, which includes Cleveland.

The training is a partnership with the U.S. attorney for the area.
