Highway Patrol appoints sergeant to Van Wert

A trooper from Capital Operations of the Ohio State Highway Patrol in Columbus has been named assistant commander of the Van Wert post.

Kelvin Collins, 49, also was promoted to sergeant.

Sergeant Collins began training in May, 1993, as a member of the 125th patrol academy class and received commission in November that year, when he was assigned to the Elyria post.

He served at the Training Academy and West Jefferson posts before going to Capital Operations in 2007.

Sergeant Collins and his wife, Emma, have two sons, Jamarkus, 20, and Tevin, 18.
