The group campaigning to repeal Senate Bill 5 canvassed door-to-door Sunday for the first time in Perrysburg.

About eight volunteers working with We Are Ohio, an independent organization partially funded by the Ohio AFL-CIO, knocked on doors of likely voters in west Perrysburg, said Matthew Klempner, the regional communications director.

He said the goal was to educate voters that Issue 2 on the Nov. 8 ballot is the referendum on whether to retain the law passed earlier this year by the Ohio General Assembly to restrict public employee collective bargaining rights in Ohio. The group is seeking a “no” vote on the issue.

“I understand reaction was very good,” Mr. Klempner said. He said We Are Ohio has a cross-section of members, including nonunion volunteers and people from the Democratic and Republican parties.
