DTE Energy is reporting more than 700 residences without power in southern Monroe County as of 8 p.m., a result of high winds throughout the evening.

The company reports 501 customers without power south of East Newport Road, because of a blown transformer. A group of 213 customers south of Stoney Creek Road is also experiencing a power outage.

Power has been out since just before 6 p.m., DTE is reporting.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office said it took numerous calls earlier in the evening on reports of downed power lines and trees, but that things started to quiet down shortly after 8 p.m.
