Superman display planned for Cleveland airport
1/23/2012CLEVELAND — Superman is being called upon to provide some promotional muscle at the airport in Cleveland, the city where the comic book hero was created.
The city council is expected to give approval Monday night to a permanent Superman display for Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. It will include a giant statue of the Man of Steel where arriving passengers can pose for photos while they wait for their baggage.
The Plain Dealer reports the display will call Superman “Greater Cleveland’s greatest hero” and ask, “Did you know Superman was born in Cleveland?”
Cleveland teenagers Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster came up with the character in the 1930s.
The Siegel and Shuster Society is hoping Superman fans will contribute to the airport project, expected to cost up to $50,000.
