Ohio 26th in complaints about identity theft

COLUMBUS — Ohio is in the middle of the pack when it comes to complaints about identity theft, according to a federal study that tracks that growing consumer problem and other scams.

Ohioans filed 64.8 complaints per 100,000 people in 2011, according to a Federal Trade Commission study that ranks the state’s rate 26th-highest. Ohioans filed 7,479 complaints.

When considering all consumer complaints, the state ranks much higher in the report: ninth-highest with 472.4 complaints per 100,000 people. The total was 54,493 complaints.
