COLUMBUS — Police say officers have killed a man who pointed a gun at them in Ohio’s capital city.

Columbus police say a bar employee stopped officers early Sunday in front of the Franklinton business and pointed out a man with a gun. The officers confronted the man, and they say he then pulled out a handgun and pointed it at them.

Police say the officers fired at the man multiple times, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses tell police that the man had been seen minutes before the shooting at another business also brandishing a gun.

Authorities say it’s not clear whether the man fired at officers.

Police say that the officers will receive mandated counseling and that investigators will look into the shooting.
