DETROIT — A group of dog owners is raising money for a free-run, off-leash dog park in Detroit in an overgrown, underused park.

The Detroit Free Press reports Tuesday that the group called Detroit Dog Park wants to revamp Macomb Park in the city's Corktown neighborhood.

The city-owned, 3/4-acre parcel is adjacent to Roosevelt Park. They want to open a dog park next summer if the city gives the OK.

Detroit Dog Park expects to spend $32,000 to $35,000 on the effort, including getting water to the site and other improvements.

Plans include picnic tables, benches, water bowls and dog-friendly pathways.
