LANSING, Mich. — Gov. Rick Snyder says lawmakers should keep aiming at job-related issues that will improve the state's economy and not gun legislation that includes exempting Michigan-made guns and ammunition from federal regulations.
The Republican governor told The Associated Press today that the GOP-led Legislature should focus on economic issues and improving mental health treatment to solve larger problems related to gun violence. He spoke after a Senate committee approved the package of bills and sent it to the full chamber for consideration.
This bill comes after a New York newspaper published the names and address of local gun owners.
Another measure calls for gun purchases and licensing information to be confidential.
Supporters say the legislation protect states’ rights and the privacy of lawful gun owners.
