DETROIT — Authorities say a Michigan State Police trooper has been shot in the leg while in pursuit of several suspects wanted for impersonating officers.

Police say the shooting happened early today on the city's east side. Police say two suspects were taken into custody and one or two may be barricaded in a home. Police say the 12-year veteran was transported to a hospital for treatment and was expected to be OK.

Police tell WWJ-AM that troopers were assisting Detroit officers in trying to track down a group of men wanted stopping motorists to rob them. State police Lt. Mike Shaw tells reporters that four men fled a traffic stop and officers later were fired upon.

Police blocked off the area around the shooting. A SWAT team is on the scene.
