No resolution in Strongsville district teacher strike

Weekend negotiations fail to bring about deal

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio  — Teachers in a northeast Ohio school district are expected to be back on the picket line Monday after parties in the strike failed to reach a deal during weekend talks.

The Plain Dealer in Cleveland reports that Strongsville Education Association President Tracy Linscott and School Board President David Frazee said separately they were frustrated by the lack of progress after Sunday's five-and-a-half-hour meeting.

The strike over salary and working conditions in the Cleveland suburb has embroiled close to 400 teachers. Classes are being conducted by substitutes in the district of about 6,300 students.

A federal mediator has been working with the parties since Jan. 30.

Superintendent John Krupinski told the newspaper that the parties remain “substantially apart” on many key issues, and no further negotiation sessions have been scheduled.
