WILMINGTON, Ohio  — Authorities have recovered a woman's body after a weeklong search of a southwest Ohio retention pond.

Wilmington police Chief Duane Weyand says 32-year-old Casey Pitzer's body was found near a ledge in the pond around 5:30 a.m. today.

The search for the woman began March 17 after she was last seen running toward the pond. Police say she was at a bar Saturday night with friends and began walking alone toward her home in Sabina.

The Wilmington News Journal has reported that shortly after getting a ride with two men, Pitzer got out and ran across four lanes of traffic on Ohio 73.

Authorities used dragging equipment and other means to search the large pond near the highway. They are awaiting autopsy results on the cause of death.
