HAMILTON, Ohio — A southwestern Ohio store keeper tells a newspaper that he killed a robber in self-defense after the man pointed a gun at his wife and then fired an errant shot at him.

Smail Gueddari tells the Hamilton JournalNews that he was working in the back room of his Hamilton store, Mazagan Urban Ware, when the man came in Saturday night. The robber, his face covered by a bandana, was pointing a gun at Gueddari’s wife.

Gueddari says that when he came out, the robber fired a shot at him but missed. Gueddari said that’s when he pulled his gun and shot back twice, hitting the robber once.

The robber — identified as 26-year-old Jeremy Scott Irvin of Fairfield — died later at a hospital.
