The Wilds in Ohio open for season
Offers safaris, other outdoor activities
5/26/2013CUMBERLAND, Ohio — An eastern Ohio conservation center has begun opening up daily for the summer season to visitors looking for a taste of an African-style safari or other outdoor activities.
The Wilds in Muskingum County covers nearly 10,000 acres and is home to 31 animal species, 13 of them endangered.
Guests can go off-roading in a pickup truck or take a covered-vehicle safari tour with opportunities to feed giraffes or touch a rhino. Other animals include bison, zebras and antelopes.
There’s a zipline trip over herds, horseback tours, and sunset safaris and overnight stays available. The Wilds also offers a weeklong summer youth camp.
The private, nonprofit center has been expanding visitor offerings in recent years. It is open daily through September, then on weekends in October.
