CINCINNATI — The president of the University of Cincinnati says he has accepted the apology of Ohio State University’s president for comments OSU’s president made about UC last week.

The Cincinnati Enquirer also reports today that UC President Santa Ono says Ohio should embrace “multiple flagship” universities instead of focusing resources and attention on Ohio State.

In December comments first reported last week, OSU President Gordon Gee criticized Notre Dame, the University of Louisville and others and said OSU would never allow UC to belong to the Big Ten Conference.

Gee says his remarks about the schools’ athletic programs were misguided attempts at humor.

Ono wrote in a commentary to the newspaper that there should be strong economic engines in each of Ohio’s cities rather than a single location.
