PATASKALA, Ohio — Authorities say a man likely killed his wife days before he killed himself at the family’s rural central Ohio home earlier this week.

The Licking County Sheriff’s Office identified the victims of Monday’s incident in Pataskala as 45-year-old Mark Stokes and 38-year-old Kendra Stokes.

The sheriff’s office said they went to the house on a welfare check at the request of Kendra Stokes’ mother. When they entered the house, they heard two shots upstairs.

Officers later found the couple in separate upstairs bedrooms. The sheriff’s office said it appeared Kendra Stokes had been dead several days.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that Mark Stokes was a former owner of a nightclub in Columbus, and his wife worked for Franklin County Job and Family Services.
