CINCINNATI  — Power has been restored for thousands of Cincinnati-area residents left in the dark when a train derailed and hit an electrical transmission tower.

Several cars of an Indiana & Ohio Railway train derailed and toppled the tower onto a nearby building Monday evening in Norwood. No injuries or evacuations were reported.

Duke Energy reported more than 13,000 area customers without power at one point. Most electrical service was back up by early today, but several roads were blocked as the cleanup continued.

It wasn’t immediately clear what the train was hauling. Norwood Mayor Thomas Williams said late Monday there was no indication that cargo in the derailed cars included hazardous materials.

A message seeking comment was left for railway officials.
