SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — Authorities say three people are dead and two are injured following a fiery, head-on crash in Clark County.

Ohio Highway Patrol Lt. Matt Cleaveland says the crash occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Friday on Old Columbus Road, about 9 miles east of central Springfield.

A news release says that the three dead were in a Ford sedan that became engulfed in flames in the crash.

Cleaveland says an SUV driven by 23-year-old Zachary Fife of South Charleston was attempting to pass a vehicle when he collided with the Ford sedan driven by 34-year-old Angela Smith of Catawba.

He says that Smith, passenger Andrew Stewart, 26, of Springfield, and an unidentified passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

Fife and a passenger in his vehicle were hospitalized, but there was no word on conditions.
