BURTON, Ohio  — Court records say the driver of an SUV has been charged with aggravated vehicular homicide in a crash with an Amish buggy that killed one person and injured three others in northeast Ohio.

Chardon municipal court records showed that the Ohio State Highway Patrol charged Douglas Learn on Monday, although officials said the county prosecutor will consider other charges.

The patrol said the 42-year-old Learn was driving a Ford Explorer on Sunday night when it slammed into the back an Amish buggy carrying five members of a family near Burton in Geauga County. Twenty-eight-year-old Joseph Byler died later at a hospital, and three family members were hurt.

The patrol said alcohol and excessive speed were factors. A message was left at a phone number listed for Learn in court records.
