COLUMBUS — Police say they have charged a 48-year-old man in a shooting near a Columbus elementary school that injured two people and led to a precautionary lockdown of the school.

No students or staff at Liberty Elementary School were injured or involved in the shooting Thursday afternoon. But police say a 14-year-old boy was shot in the thigh and a 20-year-old man was shot in the foot.

Police said in a statement that Arthur Valentine Jr., of Columbus, was arrested Friday on two charges of felonious assault in the shooting. Court records did not list an attorney for Valentine.

The injured adult and teenager were treated at hospitals and released.

Media outlets report that authorities say the shooting resulted from an argument over a cellphone.
