The Ohio Elections Commission has dismissed a complaint Thursday from Clyde resident John Brewer that state Rep. Rex Damschroder (R,. Fremont), his wife, and his attorney made false campaign statements.

The Ohio elections board’s probable cause panel voted 3-0 to dismiss the complaint.

Mr. Damschroder’s wife, Rhonda Damschroder, is running as a “place-holder” write-in candidate in the May 6 Republican primary for the 88th House District, with the stated intention of resigning the nomination if she wins it and allowing local party officials to appoint her husband in her place for the Nov. 4 general election. Mr. Damschroder was barred from the ballot because of a technical mistake he made in his candidate filing.

Mr. Brewer claimed to the OEC that Mrs. Damschroder’s campaign attorney Donald Brey made false statements during a protest hearing before the Sandusky Board of Elections on March 5. The local board rejected the protest complaint brought by Mr. Brewer.
