Traffic cameras in 2 Dayton suburbs targeted in latest Ohio lawsuits
6/4/2014CINCINNATI — Two southwest Ohio cities with traffic cameras are targeted in the latest legal challenge to their use in the state.
The Dayton-area cases charge that the automated enforcement systems in Trotwood and West Carrollton violate motorists’ constitutional rights to due process and also improperly bypass the court system. Attorneys filing the lawsuits in Montgomery County on behalf of motorists have been involved in several other cases involving cameras, and won judge’s orders halting camera use in the villages of Elmwood Place and New Miami.
The latest actions were filed today against the two suburban Dayton cities and a camera company.
Ohio’s Supreme Court will hear arguments next week in a driver’s lawsuit against Toledo’s cameras. Meanwhile, bills pending in the Statehouse would restrict or change rules for camera use.
