CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — Authorities say the owner of a popular northeast Ohio restaurant has been shot and killed during an attempted robbery.

Cleveland Heights Police Chief Jeffrey Robertson says officers were called to Brennan’s Colony restaurant and tavern at about 1 p.m. Monday after reports of gunfire in the area. He says officers found business owner Jim Brennan inside with gunshot wounds. Brennan was taken to an area hospital where he later died.

No arrests have been made in the shooting. Investigators say two suspects entered the restaurant in an attempt to rob it when Brennan confronted them.

Robertson said he knew Brennan personally and called him “a friend to generations.”

Cleveland Heights Mayor Dennis Wilcox says in a statement that Brennan was a community leader who hosted many charity and sports fundraisers.
