DAYTON — Authorities say a 25-year-old Ohio woman has been charged with assaulting a police officer who was pricked by a used drug needle during a search.

The Montgomery County prosecutor’s office said Friday that Ashley Lynn Warner of West Milton faces one count of felonious assault on an officer, and one count each for possession of heroin, cocaine and drug abuse instruments.

Vandalia police detectives were patrolling for illegal drug activity on June 20 when they approached a vehicle in which Warner was a passenger.

Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. says the officer was pricked by the needle during a pat-down, despite asking Warner repeatedly if she had any weapons or needles on her.

The officer was taken to an emergency room for treatment out of concern for contracting hepatitis C.
