Markets end week up amid deadlock over debt

Some disappointing company earnings and the deadlock over raising the U.S. borrowing limit capped Friday’s and the week’s U.S. stock market’s gains.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 43.25 points to 12,681.16. Even with the decline, the Dow gained 1.6 percent for the week. It has finished three of the last four weeks higher than where it started.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 gained 1.22 to close at 1,345.02. It finished the week with a 2.2 percent gain. The Nasdaq composite rose 24.40 points to 2,858.83.
