NEW YORK — Stocks closed mixed today on Wall Street as the S&P 500 index notches its seventh straight week of gains.

The Dow Jones industrial average ended slightly lower for the week, giving it a second straight weekly loss.

Indexes ended the day more or less where they started today as investors held back ahead of a meeting of global finance ministers and central bankers in Moscow.

The Dow edged up eight points to 13,981, while the Standard & Poor's 500 edged down a point to 1,519. The Nasdaq composite lost six points to end at 3,192.

Energy stocks followed crude oil prices lower. Schlumberger and Chevron fell.

Slightly more stocks fell than rose on the New York Stock Exchange. Volume was in line with the recent average, 3.7 billion shares.
