U.S. stocks move mostly higher on company earnings

NEW YORK — Stocks are moving mostly higher in midday trading, keeping the market on track for a second week of gains as investors assess more company earnings.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose five points, or 0.3 percent, to 1,834 as of noon today. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 75 points, or 0.5 percent, to 16,103.

The Nasdaq composite fell three points, or 0.1 percent, to 4,237.

Campbell Soup rose 4 after the company reported that its second-quarter profit and revenue came in above Wall Street’s expectations.

Weight Watchers International plunged 25 percent after reporting a big drop in earnings that was worse than analysts’ had been forecasting. The company also issued a weak earnings forecast for this year.
