Former WIOT-FM announcer dies

Funeral services will be today in Nebraska for former Toledo radio announcer Jim Steel , who died Tuesday after a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, known as ALS and Lou Gehrig s disease. He was 45.

Steel, whose real name was Jim Lyle, was a former announcer and program director at WIOT-FM, 104.7.

The 1984 Bowling Green State University graduate got his start at WIOT while still in

college and served as program director from 1988-91.

After leaving Toledo, Steel worked at WHTQ-FM in Orlando, Fla., until 1993. Most recently, he had been serving as Clear Channel director of operations for Omaha and Lincoln, Neb.

Steel also started the non-profit organization Get in the Game.

Survivors include his wife, Karin , and daughter, Delani.
