Kelly Heidbreder, a Riga, Mich. native who writes a Wednesday gardening column for The Blade, has been named the morning anchor for WNWO-TV, Channel 24.

A meteorologist, Heidbreder has been with the NBC affiliate since 2007. She is a 15-year news veteran who also worked in Bangor, Maine, and Fort Wayne, Ind. She has a communications degree from Western Michigan University and a meteorology degree from Mississippi State University.

She replaces Jennifer Taylor, who recently left the station to begin a family.

“Kelly brings just the right amount of bright energy and edgy reporting we need in the morning. It is a perfect fit,” Rich Stewart, NBC 24 media operations manager, said in a news release.

NBC 24 is part of Barrington Broadcasting Inc., which owns 21 television stations in 15 markets.
