The accordion joins college radio Sunday mornings on WXUT-FM, 88.3 with the debut of a Polish-American-style polka show.

The radio program on the University of Toledo’s station airs from 8 to 10 a.m. and is also streamed on WXUT’s Web site, wxut.com. It features polkas, waltzes, and obereks, as well as some Slovenian and other ethnic polkas.

“Plus, we’ll throw in some Polish folk and pop music just to keep things interesting,” said the show’s host, David Jackson.

Jackson, an associate professor of political science at Bowling Green State University, has hosted similar radio shows in Detroit and Saginaw, Mich. This is his first radio show in northwest Ohio.

Jackson has traveled extensively in Poland, including teaching for a semester on a Fulbright Fellowship at the University of Lodz, in Central Poland. He wrote a book about his experience abroad, Classrooms and Barrooms: An American in Poland.
