Chs. 13, 11, and 36 receive 29 Emmy nominations for news

The Lower Great Lakes chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences recently announced its 42nd annual Emmy nominees, with WTVG-TV, Channel 13, leading the pack in the Toledo market.

The ABC affiliate received 15 nominations — a record for the station — including best newscast (evening) for 11 p.m., best newscast (morning/daytime) for noon, and best newscast (weekend), along with best sportscast (Joe Nugent) and best weathercast (Bill Spencer).

CBS affiliate WTOL-TV, Channel 11, received eight nominations, including best newscast (evening) for 5 p.m., best newscast (morning/daytime) for 5 a.m., and best newscast (weekend), along with best sports program for Big Board Friday with Dan Cummins.

Fox affiliate WUPW-TV, Channel 36, received three nominations, best newscast (evening) for 6:30 and 10 p.m., and best newscast (weekend).

The Lower Great Lakes chapter includes affiliates in Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Lima, and Youngstown, as well as stations in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Ind., and Erie, Pa. Emmy winners will be announced June 18 in Cleveland.
