Daytime Emmys to farewell fete Oprah, Regis, outgoing soap operas
6/19/2011LAS VEGAS — Oprah Winfrey may be gone from daytime television, but the queen of talk won’t be forgotten at Sunday night’s Daytime Emmy Awards in Las Vegas.
Winfrey, who recently ended her lauded talk show after 25 years, will be honored with the Crystal Pillar award for changing the face of daytime television in the ceremony hosted by Wayne Brady at the Las Vegas Hilton.
The 38th annual show honoring everything from soap operas to game shows to talk shows might seem more like a bittersweet goodbye, with Regis Philbin, Meredith Vieira, and nominees “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” joining Winfrey on the way out.
ABC’s “General Hospital” came into the ceremony with a leading 21 nominations, followed by CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” with 20 and “Sesame Street” with 16.
