UT gains at-large bid to NCAA regional golf

5/9/2001

For the fourth consecutive year, the University of Toledo men's golf team has earned an at-large bid to the NCAA regionals.

UT will play in the Central Regional at Karsten Creek in Stillwater, Okla., on May 17-19.

If the Rockets make the cut at the NCAA Regionals, they would advance to the NCAA finals, May 30-June 2, at Duke.

The Rockets, who finished in second place at last week's MAC championship meet, are led by junior Kevin Kornowa and freshmen Brad Heaven and Sean McTernan. Kornowa and Heaven were named first-team All-MAC, while McTernan made second-team. Heaven also was named freshman of the year.

Coach John Jasinski's squad will try to advance to the NCAA finals for just the second time in school history. In 1999, the Rockets advanced to the finals and finished in 16th place.
