UT women lose again

DETROIT - Mark Ehlen didn't mince words last night after his University of Toledo women's basketball team lost 54-46 to the University of Detroit.

“I can't remember a more disappointing loss,” Ehlen said. “I can't remember a team that is this good that played with such little heart, team spirit and confidence. It is an embarrassment to the tradition of this program.”

UT (2-3) opened the season with a win over fifth-ranked Duke, but has since lost three of four. The Rockets have lost back-to-back games for the first time in 39 games - since February of 2000.

Last night, Toledo shot just 28.8 percent from the field and fell behind 34-17 at halftime.

Center Melantha Herron went 4-for-17 from the field. She did lead the team with three blocks and six rebounds, but the Titans outrebounded UT 52-29.

The Rockets have been outrebounded in all five games this year after being outrebounded in only seven of 31 games last year.

“We came into tonight's game knowing we had to get better on the boards and we got worse,” Ehlen said.

Teresa Kahle and Kelly Walker led Toledo with nine points each. Michelle James had 19 points for the Titans (3-2), whose two losses were to Michigan and Michigan State.
