SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The University of Toledo staged a furious rally, but fell short in a 73-67 loss yesterday to Santa Clara in women's basketball.

Tamesha Scotton led the UT (4-7) with a career-high 19 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Diana Reindl added 11 point.

"Tamesha was a warrior for us today," UT coach Mark Ehlen said. "When everyone else on our team was tentative, she played extremely hard."

The Broncos jumped out to a 14-0 lead, then pushed it to 40-18 with 6:30 left in the first half. Ten of the Broncos' 14 first-half field goals were 3-pointers.

UT cut the deficit to 49-40 with 16:23 left, then made it 54-53 with 8:26 left in the game.

But Santa Clara's Graham drained a pair of 3-pointers in a span of 40 seconds to build the lead back up to 61-55 with 7:10 left. UT refused to go away, making it 61-60 with 4:37 left but could never pull even.

Chandice Cronk and Graham led the Broncos with 18 points.
