SPECIAL TO THE BLADE

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri defeated the University of Toledo women 70-50 last night at Mizzou Arena.

Juniors Allie Clifton and Lisa Johnson led the Rockets (2-5) with 10 points each. Toledo shot a season-low 32.1 percent (18-of-56) from the field, including 8.3 percent (1-of-12) from beyond the arc.

Toledo was also guilty of a season-high 25 turnovers, which Missouri converted into 24 points.

"Allie is starting to get into a groove," Toledo coach Tricia Cullop said.

It was just Clifton's second game of the season.

"The first game back her timing was a little off, but tonight she was extremely aggressive, and we need her leadership on the court.

"I also liked the fact that we got Lisa shooting a little better. She struggled from the field the last few games and it was good to see her knock down some shots."

The Tigers opened the game by scoring 14 of the first 16 points.

"The first 10 minutes we played very passive and looked nervous," Cullop said. "You have to credit Missouri, though, they came out very hot and had a lot to do with that. I thought after the first 10 minutes we made better decisions at both ends of the floor, and hopefully we can take this home and learn from it."

Shakara Jones and Alyssa Hollins paced the Tigers (3-4) with 15 points apiece. Jessra Johnson added 10.

Missouri shot 45 percent (27-of-60) from the floor, including 35.7 percent (5-of-14) from beyond the arc.
