Ex-UT players Villegas' sentencing on point-shaving charges postponed

Former University of Toledo men's basketball player Sammy Villegas' sentencing on point-shaving charges was postponed from Thursday until Nov. 30.

It is the third delay in the sentencing of Villegas, who was charged in the summer of 2008 with accepting bribes to shave points in a 2006 game. If convicted in U.S. District Court in Detroit, Villegas could face a five-year prison term and/or a $250,000 fine.

Villegas waived an indictment hearing by signing an information document, an indicator that he has reached a plea agreement. Villegas has been playing professional basketball in Puerto Rico.

Six other former UT football and men's basketball players were indicted last month on conspiracy to commit sports bribery, after an investigation of more than two years.
