University of Toledo men's basketball coach Gene Cross announced Monday that freshman forward Hayden Humes will sit out the season due to injury.

Humes suffered a torn ACL during individual workouts last week. He will take medical redshirt this season and have four years of eligibility remaining.

"This is a very unfortunate injury for Hayden,” Cross said in a statement. “The most important aspect we need to concentrate on now is his recovery. We have an extremely knowledgeable medical and athletic training staff whose goal now is to get him back to 100 percent as soon as possible. We want to try to take as many positives away from this as we can and make sure we support Hayden throughout his rehabilitation.”

A 6-foot-8, 210-pound native of Valparaiso, Ind., Humes averaged 14.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last season for Valparaiso High School, while shooting 45 percent from 3-point range.
