University of Toledo swimming and diving coach Lars Jorgensen has agreed to a contact extension that will keep him at the school through 2014.

Jorgensen, who recently completed his sixth season guiding the Rockets, led the program to its first Mid-American Conference championship this year.

"I'm excited for the future as we continue to build a tradition here," Jorgensen said.

Prior to Jorgensen's arrival, UT had never finished higher than fourth at the MAC championships.

"Lars has evolved into one of the best young coaches in the country," UT athletic director Mike O'Brien said. "It was important for us to show a commitment to Lars and his program."

Five-time ARCA Sportsman champion Ron Allen opened up the 2010 Valvoline Summer Racing Series presented by Cumulus Radio at Toledo Speedway last night with a victory in the 35 lap main event. Allen of Lincoln Park, Mich., topped Jim Froling, Tom Adams Jr., Todd Hamilton, and rookie Kyle DeLisle on his way to the win. Adams led from the onset and kept Allen at bay for much of the race. On a lap 23 re-start, Allen darted low in turn 2 and zipped into the lead, with Froling also getting by Adams.

Dennis Whisman nosed into the lead on the eighth lap and grabbed the win in the 20-lap ARCA Figure 8 feature race.
