DETROIT — The University of Toledo football team was voted the favorite to win the Mid-American Conference's West Division title and the league's championship game, the MAC announced Tuesday.

The Rockets received 83 points, as well as eight first-place votes, to edge defending West champ Northern Illinois (81 points, five first-place votes), in a poll of the league's media. The poll was announced at the league’s annual Football Media Day at Ford Field.

Toledo also received five votes — more than any other league school — to win the league's championship game, which will be played at Ford Field on Dec. 7.

Bowling Green was picked to finish fifth in the East Division with 48 points. While Ohio's eight first-place votes were the most first-place votes in the East, defending champ Miami was named the favorite by a 97-96 count.
