University of Toledo senior safety Mark Singer will miss the 2011 season with a torn labrum in his shoulder, coach Tim Beckman told The Blade on Tuesday afternoon.

Singer sat out during spring practices while nursing his injured shoulder and recently re-aggravated the injury during fall practices.

Singer, a returning starter at free safety, was fourth on the team with 73 tackles last season and registered a career-high eight tackles in the Rockets' 34-32 loss to Florida International in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl last December.

Sophomore Ross Madison was listed second on the preseason depth chart at free safety and is expected to fill Singer's place in the starting lineup.
