Shafir nominated for award

University of Toledo senior guard Naama Shafir is one of 30 women’s basketball players nominated for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award.

Shafir is the first Rocket to make this preseason list and the only representative from the Mid-American Conference.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence — community, classroom, character, and competition.

The candidates will be narrowed to five finalists midway through the season, and a winner will be announced during the 2012 Final Four.
