The University of Toledo women’s soccer team learned Monday evening that it will take on host Marquette at 7 p.m. Saturday in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

The Rockets (14-6-2) earned an automatic bid to the field of 64 by winning the Mid-American Conference tournament championship with a 1-0 win over Western Michigan on Sunday.

This will be UT’s fourth trip to the NCAA tournament in the last six years.

“It never gets old,” UT coach Brad Evans said. “There’s 260 teams whose seasons are done, and we get to continue to play.”

The Golden Eagles (17-3) were awarded an at-large bid to the tournament after falling 1-0 to Notre Dame in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament.

ACADEMIC HONORS: Senior forward Kristen Lynn and sophomore forward Nicole Gyurgyik have been named academic all-district honorees.

Lynn was chosen as a first-team selection and will be placed on the national ballot for academic All-American consideration, while Gyurgyik was a third-team recipient.

The Rockets’ two selections are the most in a single season in program history. Lynn holds a 3.89 grade-point average as an exercise science major, and Gyurgyik has a 3.97 GPA as a nursing major.
