The University of Toledo football team finalized its 2012 non-conference schedule Wednesday by announcing a home game against Cincinnati on Oct. 20.

The home-and-home deal with the Bearcats calls for UT to play at Cincinnati in 2014.

“We are very pleased to be adding the University of Cincinnati to our 2012 home football schedule and look forward to an exciting series with the Bearcats,” UT athletic director Mike O’Brien said in a statement.

Cincinnati was 10-3 last season and, like Toledo, won its bowl game with a 31-24 victory over Vanderbilt in the Liberty Bowl. The Big East co-champions finished No. 21 in the final USA Today coaches poll.

UT has played Cincinnati six times, winning twice. The most recent meeting came in the 2001 Motor City Bowl, with UT prevailing 23-16.

“I’m excited that we are adding Cincinnati to our 2012 schedule,” UT coach Matt Campbell said. “I have a lot of respect for coach Butch Jones and the Cincinnati program. This will be another challenging series that I’m sure our players and fans will look forward to."

UT will begin next season with road games at Arizona and Wyoming. After a bye week, the Rockets will host Coastal Carolina. The Cincinnati game will come after the Mid-American Conference season has begun.
