Mauntler won 2004 MAC title, led Rockets for 9 years

University of Toledo men's golf coach Jamie Mauntler announced his resignation Thursday following nine years at the helm of the program.

"I am thankful for my time at the University of Toledo which has been part of my life beginning in 1992 as a student-athlete," Mauntler said in a statement. "I accomplished a great deal, but I am most proud of all the great student-athletes I coached and mentored in my nine years as head coach."

Mauntler, a Toledo native who graduated from Bowsher, guided the Rockets to the 2004 Mid-American Conference title en route to receiving the league's coach of the year honor. He coached one MAC golfer of the year (Brad Heaven, 2004), one MAC freshman of the year (Chris Selfridge, 2012), one MAC medalist (Ciaran McAleavey, 2008), five All-MAC honorees, and five Academic All-MAC recipients.

"I want to thank Jamie for his years of service and dedication to our men's golf program," athletic director Mike O'Brien said. "He's been a tremendous representative for our athletic department."

O'Brien added that a national search for a new coach would begin immediately.

FOOTBALL RECEPTION: UT football coach Matt Campbell and his staff will host a reception at Inverness Club on May 31 from 5:30-9 p.m.

Fans and supporters of the Rockets will enjoy beer and wine tasting, hors d'oeuvres, and a cash bar. There will be a live auction with items such as a trip for two to games at Arizona and Wyoming, and field passes for games against Cincinnati and Bowling Green.

Proceeds benefit the University of Toledo "Rocket Fuel" program.

PATTERSON HONORED: Duquesne senior Sean Patterson, a St. John's Jesuit graduate, is one of 36 Football Championship Subdivision quarterbacks named to the College Football Performance Awards preseason watch list.

Patterson, a 2011 second team All-Northeast Conference pick, ranks tied for fourth among FCS returning quarterbacks with 46 career touchdown passes.

The left-hander threw for 2,011 yards and 23 touchdowns in leading the Dukes to a 9-2 record and tie for first place in the NEC (7-1) in his second full season as a starter. He also ran for 552 yards and two scores.
