Cameron Palmer pitched six strong innings as the University of Toledo took a 6-3 victory Saturday over Northern Illinois at Scott Park.
The win evened the series with the Huskies, who lead the Mid-American Conference West Division.
Palmer (3-3) allowed two runs (both earned) on seven hits with six strikeouts.
UT (18-26, 9-11 MAC) also benefited from solid relief performances from Andrew Marra and Adam Tyson to preserve the win.
Marra came on in relief of Palmer and worked 1⅓ innings, before giving way to Tyson, who recorded the final five outs to earn his second save.
Toledo’s bats came through in a big way against a four NIU hurlers.
Ben Hammer (2-for-4, 3 RBIs), Nate Langhals (2-for-4), Deion Tansel (2-for-2, RBI), and John Martillotta (2-for-4, RBI) fueled the attack.
For Northern Illinois (20-25, 14-6) Jordan Ruckman (2-7) was charged with the loss, yielding six runs (all earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts in six innings.
The teams meet again at 1:05 p.m. today.
