The University of Toledo’s men’s basketball team is on an 11-day trip to Greece. Justin Drummond, a junior guard, will provide daily updates of the team’s experience.

Our trip to Epidavros this morning to see its ancient theater was truly amazing. Driving up the coastline to the mountains gave us the chance to see the most beautiful scenery you would never see in the United States. All of the guys really enjoyed it and appreciate the once-in-a-lifetime experience we’re getting. It’s unbelievable to see something that impressive built from stone over 2,000 years ago without the benefit of today’s technology. We also had a chance to visit a museum at the archaeological site in Epidavros that was filled with sculptures of ancient Greek gods. Many of them reminded me of the movie Hercules which is one of my favorites.

Our next stop was in Napflion for lunch. The yachts docked in the harbor were the most luxurious I’ve ever seen. I had 30 fried guppies for lunch. That was interesting because in America we use those for bait. J.D Weatherspoon, Juice Brown and Jordan Lauf were with me and they took a bite of them also. Juice even ordered some exotic shrimp where they give you the whole thing including the eyes! It was also nice to chat with UT vice president Larry Burns at lunch and I told him that I want to try something new every day that I’m here.

Our game this evening was excellent. We came out with a lot of energy and ready to play. Our goal was to share the ball and it was a good game to get our feet wet. We’re getting a chance to see who plays well together and that’s important with all the new guys we have. I’m definitely looking to see what tomorrow has in store for us.

UT 109, GREEK POSEIDON 35: The freshman trio of Jordan Lauf, Jonathan Williams and Zach Garber led the way for Toledo.

Lauf scored a game-high 16 points with Williams and Garber contributing 14 and 13 points, respectively. Aubrey Williams added 13, while Justin Drummond and J.D. Weatherspoon each had 10.
